Extract of Mr Hickeys review Keith Richardson is a painter whose response to the scenery around Lisadell House has produced paintings concerned with quiet, uninhabited places where trees and sky, stream and rivulets merge to create contemplative paintings that need to be looked at again and again to allow them to reveal secrets that lie under the soft, subtle, aqueous palette.
His new works exhibition at Gallery Zozimus are a complete departure from the earlier works. Here Richardson is concerned with the seascape of Co. Sligo. There is none of the softness of the landscape paintings. He explores the harshness of rocks, of promontories, of stormy seas. Some of the canvases, such as The Curse of Lir painting, are huge - throbbing with energy. This is a world where the only sign of man are the telegraph wires where wild birds perch. And, as with the landscapes, these new paintings need to be looked at, not glanced at, to allow them to reveal their secrets. Mosses on rocks. A tiny house or cabin. A meeting of sea and sky.
A new comment from a truly excellent painter.
The Exhibition opens on 19th of November at 6pm till late and runs until the 6th. December 2009.
Hope you all like the work
